One moment, Sami Abed, president of United EMS Workers-AFSCME Local 4911, was just a passenger on a United Airlines flight. The next moment he was a central figure in a medical emergency.

Thanks to Abed and an unnamed doctor also aboard that flight, a 68-year-old, unidentified man who might have died in the aisle was revived so that he could be taken to a hospital for treatment.

Please note there's been a ballot change: David Stephens is NO LONGER A CANDIDATE for Vice President.

REMEMBER: All eligible UEMSW/AFSCME Local 4911 members will receive an official election ballot via mail. If you do not receive a ballot by Tuesday, June 21st please contact the UEMSW office at (925) 443-4911 to check your membership status and request a ballot if you are a member.

Having a college degree is more important than ever for getting ahead these days, but tuition costs just keep getting higher and higher. That's why the AFSCME Free College Benefit doesn't cost a dime.

AFSCME is dedicated to helping you and your family succeed without piling on thousands of dollars in student debt.

An associate degree can be your pathway to new opportunities, greater responsibility, a better job and higher wages. This program is also designed to be flexible. You can take online classes that fit into your schedule.

The Code Green Campaign calls attention to mental health issues such as PTSD and suicide in public saftey. Staying informed on where you can get help is essential! Click here for more information. #SavingPublicSafety

Today 200 of our AMR brothers and sisters in Washington D.C. voted overwhelmingly to join AFSCME, despite Bennelli being there in person to union bust. While they will not be part of 4911 we are still 200 voices closer to commanding the presence WE need to drive the future of EMS. Please join me in welcoming DC into the fold.
